Fly me to the Moon . . . Let me Dance upon the Stars
February 12, 2009

I love space! If I could go back in time I would have involved myself in a career in Astronomy or Marine Biology. It's the unknown that allows me to discover and I so enjoy discoveries, whether they be of the mind, the heart, our planet or the wondrous universe that sprawls out before me in the dark, nighttime sky. I also concern myself with the prevalent environmental issues that face humanity.
Until the 1900's waste in many of today's forms were unknown to the common person. We did not have the need to explore methods of our disposal of non-organic waste. Organic waste is easy, it goes right back from whence it came. Fallen leaves, trees, foods, even us eventually pass our energy right back to our planet and renew the organic material that will come afterward. But what about this non-organic waste, what becomes of that? We've not found an "absolute" way of dealing with our nuclear wastes! In the United States alone, the Department of Energy states there are "millions of gallons of radioactive waste" as well as "thousands of tons of spent nuclear fuel and material" and also "huge quantities of contaminated soil and water."
Predictions indicate that within the next hundred years over 50% of species on this planet in the varying forms of flora, fauna and animal species will simply cease to exist. And in another important note approximately 3% of the earth is covered in jungle yet holds 50% of the species of the planet. And this 3% is being reduced through de-forestation and environmental changes at rates that would boggle the brain. Just as I was writing this I wanted to find my source on this information. The other day I'd read the article and just now did a search. This article is from 1982 and at that time they accorded 6% of the land mass of earth as jungle. Look at the date, read the article and put together the math! Also note this is not a study by some want-to-be environmentalists as we are throwing out numbers just to frighten you. This study was done by The Environmentalist and given in a lecture and reading at Perdue University. Scientists and other relevant watchdogs make an "excuse" or reason that we really do not know whether this loss is attributed to our doing or is a calendar event that occurs at certain intervals in earth history. Somewhat akin to the extinction level event (E.L.E.) that removed most of life on this world throughout the history of earth.
Reasons behind these and many other issues will in all probability not have a valid answer until it's too late for our planet and its population. And here we are moving into the stars and heavens above. You know I do not think I've ever seen a film or read a story about ELF's that doesn't involve our immediate aggression and hostility. It makes one wonder what would we really do? If in fact we get contact from another civilization this means one primary thing. They have already obtained technology that is superior to ours. Do you think such a race of beings have not analyzed the why's and what for's of the human race. Do you think they'd have meddled out the fact that we are the only species that kill other members of our species not for food or survival but for idiotic differences in many things that we cannot ever control! We kill for pleasure, we kill for greed, we kill and continue to do so for reasons that are nothing more than noble lies! So, here we are polluting our world, giving future generations the task of taking care of wiping our asses as this generation did and the generation before. It's always left for the next generation isn't it? Now we move into space and as we move into space we leave behind more litter, more garbage that we'd rather track than solve. I am very much for the exploration of the worlds around us, in this solar system and perhaps some day in other galaxies. I am for the exploration to advance the science and mathematics that will aide us in understanding how the universes work. I revel in the glory of the images sent to us by telescope and other world remote explorers. Yet I do not feel at all comfortable in our plans to colonize other worlds. Even though I would be the first to volunteer to be a part of some Earth outpost I feel strongly that we'd be better putting those billions of dollars to work on making mankind more earth friendly to Earth! So, here we are. With over 100,000 earth objects in orbit ready at a moments notice to compromise the scientific instruments that we've used to explore. The waste products have transcended the bounds of earth and scattered themselves in the heavens and have given us a legacy that may be hard to undo.
Recently, very recently, like a few days ago two satellites collided. It is predicted that this will become a more common occurrence. I do not have the answers, I truly wish I did. But then who would listen?
     1.  The first major collision between two artificial satellites in Earth orbit occurred at 16:56 UT on February 10, 2009, at 776 kilometres (482 mi) above the Taymyr Peninsula in Siberia. The collision speed has been estimated at around 11.6 km/s.

Movie of the Month

V for Vendetta
"Remember . . . remember the fifth of November . . . "
Anyone who watches this movie should be moved by the illustration of V, "People should not be afraid of its Government, Government should be afraid of its people." V is a man seeking justice for himself and for all the people of his country through his anarchist persona and goal of repeating "The Gunpowder Treason" by blowing up Parliment on November 5th. The United Kingdom is portrayed as a country which then has a Totalitarian government. V for Vendettaa 2005 film which is an adaptation of the graphic novel series "V for Vendetta" by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. It's well worth watching a first time or again. A keeper!

The real story of The Gunpowder Treason and Guy Fawkes (the Diecast for "V")

"Beneath this mask there is more than flesh... Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof."
