Danger Will Robinson . . . Danger!
February 9, 2009

I've had this phone call before. A solicitation from a telemarketer offering me a warranty for my new car as according to their records mine is about to expire. A few months ago I received a few of these phone calls not answering the first or second time. On the third try I waited till the preliminary computer voice pitch was over and pressed one in accordance with the computer voices instructions and was connected to a representative. I asked very politely to be taken off their list. Something I am entitled to do by the same law that provides they'd acquiesce to my request. Whoohoo score one for the Gipper! Two months pass no more phone calls. I thought nothing more about it.
Yesterday, another phone call from a number unknown to me which is not unusual and in this case I'd given my number to a few people in case they'd need someone to talk with so I answered thinking perhaps this was one of those people.
"Hello, your new car warranty is about to expire . . ."
Here we go again, I wait this time right away and hit the old number one to speak with a representative. The rep gets on the line in less time than it takes to blink and this time I loaded my gun.
"May I have your name and company name please?"
Click goes the line. I call the number back two times and both times get that rapid busy signal which tells me that computer voice is busily dialing other new car owning, warranty expiring individuals. I do not give up and as they say third time is the charm and computer voice begins her (is it a her) spiel. Hitting one right away I am directed to a representative and this time I figure I will be a bit more catlike! Using my vocal prowess to get the information I need. Thankfully this rep offers her name right away,
"Hello this is Tiveny how can I help you?"
"I'm sorry what? Your name was?"
"Tiveny sir, how can I help you?"
"Yes Tiveny what company is this please."
"This is Warranty Services and we want to offer you a warranty for your new car."
"Well Tiveny I have asked previously for your company not to contact me. I want your company information so that I may report your company to the proper agency."

I do an online reverse phone number search and as I remembered last time found a whole listing of people who have registered a complain about this number. Some of the comments are not quite polite. Some are outright annoyed and angry. Some are plain old pissed off! While I am reading the comments of these individuals I get another call, different number, I answer the phone thinking surely I am safe this time. Different area code, it must be the call I was expecting. It was computer voice again asking if I want my new car's warranty extended through their company. This time I do not hit one; do not wish to speak with another representative. I document my experience of the calls and numbers on the forum, with my comments and listing both numbers.
There are several things wrong with this picture. I understand that telemarketers need to make a living like anyone else and in today's economy it's understandable that any job is better than no job. The first wrong thing is I do not own a car and have never owned a showroom fresh vehicle! Second, my phone number is supposed to be inaccessible to the outside world. One of the main reasons that I got the phone to begin with to be unlisted and unknown and this is more the crux of the problem! Why am I paying so much per month to carry a phone when somewhere along the line my carrier has decided to pocket more coin by selling to these companies their clients phone number base? So, in my eyes I have paid for these types of inappropriate, unwarranted and completely unjustified calls. What the hell is wrong with that picture? I am also concerned with those who may not comprehend and do get scammed by this company, perhaps paying for a service they will never receive with money they really do not have.

For reference these are the two numbers I have collected belonging to this phantom car warranty service:
847-871-9025 and 484-220-1183
I can be certain that there are other numbers. Like most of what we write about here it's all about consideration and "just" thinking. Pass this info along and as sad as it will be to add to the unemployment rolls I hope this is exactly what happens! This is not a service that does anything but scam people out of hard earned dollars. It amazed me how many can do this but not surprising when the employees of these companies outgun by sheer numbers the employees of the government that have a duty to stop such practices. Waste on both sides of the fence.
Peace.
