Like anyone in the family your canine needs regular health check-up's and vaccinations. Again I'm not a vet and this information is just that, "for informational purposes only." I have listed what may be the most common of basic dog care and a shot chart. I've listed a number really educational and informative sites in the linking column at the top left. I hope this page is helpful.

Health Checklist
Use preventive medications seasonally to control parasites, fleas and ticks. There are many fine products on the market for flea, tick and parasite control.
Like us regular doctor visits (Yearly) are key to maintaining your pet's good health. At these visits bring your animals shot record and update or get booster vaccines as necessary. Also insure that your animal is tested for Heartworm which if left untreated can cause serious medical complications and can cause death.
Pay attention to your canines dietary needs. Take care of coat and teeth.

If you are not in the business of breeding spay or neuter your dog.
These are a few common sense comments to help understand your pets. If you look at this list it is not, with the exception that I am writing about canines, any different than what we do with our own health each year. We watch our diets, sleep and exercise regularly. We try to see our physician once a year and to the dentist. We clean and groom ourselves to feel better, look better and smell better. Animals in the wild do not have the benefits of such care and are left to what nature has in store for them. Our animals should have the opportunity to live as long a life as they possibly can. If you have a pet, they're family. Treat them as such.
Oh, clean the junk out of their eyes in the morning or whenever you see it. Use a damp cloth or paper towel to clean that crud. Dogs do not have the advantage of opposable thumbs or fingertips to get it out themselves. Also their ears need to be cleaned out occasionally as well not only for health but to prevent ear mites.

For too long I've messed with the wiring in my head. Now it shorts out more oft than not. But at my age I just sit and enjoy the sparks. RJM '07
